Kennedy Memorial, Founder's Plaza and More
Location: Downtown
Hours of Operation: 24 hrs
Description:
Reaching across the space behind (east) of the Old Red Courthouse on the edge of downtown, this plaza has long been home to the John Neely Bryan cabin, the first home of the pioneer credited with settling Dallas. In early 2006, the cabin had been moved temporarily while an underground parking garage was being built beneath the plaza. What you can see at this time is the stark but deeply moving John F. Kennedy Memorial, a tribute to the slain president and a work by the late, renowned architect Philip Johnson.

The Majestic Theatre
On April 11, 1921, the new Majestic Theatre opened it’s doors during the Vaudeville era. The Majestic hosted a variety of acts from Houdini to Mae West and Bob Hope. As Vaudeville began to fade and the era of talking pictures emerged, the Majestic Theatre began hosting movie premieres and their stars such as Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck and John Wayne. The Big Bands featuring Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington continued the tradition of live entertainment at the Majestic. On July 16, 1973 the Majestic Theatre went “dark” after the final showing of the film, “Live and Let Die”. On January 31, 1976, the Hobilitzelle Foundation, owner of the Majestic Theatre presented the theatre to the City of Dallas.
Renovation where necessary was the order at the Majestic. Restoration of the Renaissance Baroque exterior and the reapplication of the 23K gold leaf to the extensive interior decorative accents and molding were meticulously completed. Interior improvements also involved acoustics, seating, lighting and stage renovation.
The Majestic Theatre was named to the National Register of Historic Places and re-opened on January 28, 1983, as an elegant center for the performing arts.

North Park Center - Shopping
In the early 1960s, developer Raymond D. Nasher leased a 97-acre cotton field on the edge of Dallas to build what was at that time the largest climate-controlled retail establishment in the world. He assembled a team of accomplished architects and designers who laid out the shopping center on an axis like a town and designed it from the ground up to properly display large works of art. When it opened in 1965 with its clean lines, attention to detail and elegant finishes, North Park Center's international design and tenant mix forever changed the retail landscape in North Texas and the Southwest.
Today North Park Center continues to be a premier shopping center, proudly offering shoppers a mix of the finest in luxury retail, market exclusives and fine dining with wide promenades, spacious courts, water features and lush landscaping. With over 21 million visitors annually, North Park has consistently been named the top attraction in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex by The Dallas Business Journal.
