The French Room Wins AAA AwardNationally recognized and critically acclaimed, The French Room at The Adolphus has been described by the New York Times as “a Louis XV fantasy on the prairie . . . indisputably the most striking and sumptuous restaurant in Dallas.” Readers of Gourmet Magazine have rated the dining room one of America’s “Top Tables” and the best restaurant in Dallas/Fort Worth. It consistently earns “extraordinary to perfection” ratings in Zagat, besting all other Metroplex restaurants for food, service and décor in the latest survey.

The French Room’s “29” Zagat food rating places it among a select group of restaurants nationwide. The 2006/2007 Zagat Survey named it the #1 hotel restaurant in America. Travel & Leisure chose it for its rankings of “America’s Top 50 Restaurants” and the “twenty-five best dining experiences in the world.”

The French RoomThe French Room is recognized as a product of a culinary revolution that began in France in the 1970s. Each dish incorporates the highest quality ingredients chosen at the peak of their season. Their rich and distinctive flavors are achieved through reductions of vegetable stocks, purees and emulsions, rather than relying solely on butter and cream. In its most recent review of the dining room, Dallas Morning News gave the experience its coveted five-star rating: “Magnifique: New French Room Chef and sommelier create a dining experience as wonderful as the setting.”

The French Room in The AdolphusAmong the architectural features of this opulent setting are murals that span the high, arched ceiling. The muralist, Alexander Rosenfield, also painted the sets for the original production of “Mame” in Philadelphia and the portrait of Laura in the motion picture Laura.

Eight faux marble columns border the room. Original bas-reliefs, gilt moldings and sconces have been completely restored. The principal backgrounds of ivory, pale green, soft tans, blues and pinks set the tone of the room.

The French Room Bar in The AdolphusThe French Room also features hand-blown crystal chandeliers of 17th century design. They were made in Murano, Italy, by the descendants of craftsmen who made the famous originals more than 300 years ago. The flooring is a verde monte marble, imported from the Orient. Period furnishings, silver, crystal, china and linens have been custom designed for the room. The companion French Room Bar is paneled in rich American walnut. The fireplace over mantle is made of English Chippendale mahogany, refinished in antique Chinese red. Many of the bar’s tables, cabinets, oil paintings and lamp bases are authentic pieces from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

The French Room, Dallas, TexasThe Dallas Morning News, writes: Chef Weaver “Cooks with the exactitude of a mathematician. He selects his ingredients as meticulously as a poet chooses his words.” The service, under the watchful eye of Maitre d’Hotel Jim Donohue, is, in the words of the News, “smooth, unobtrusive and unflappable.” The New York Times, the Washington Post, Bon Appetit, and the annual Zagat Survey are unanimous in their praise for Chef Weaver and The French Room. Indeed, Zagat named The French Room the number one hotel restaurant in America.
