The winning entry:
Our unforgettable French Room experience was just this past year. My boyfriend and I decided to have a lovely, quiet getaway at the Adolphus prior to Valentine’s Day. During the preceding eight months, we had experienced several very stressful events and felt that the beauty and grace of the Adolphus would be a welcome retreat. Our room was beautiful and someone even sent up a tray of fruit, cheese & crackers that we snacked on while we prepared for our dinner reservations at the French Room. The maitre’d greeted us by name as we arrived and from that point on we felt completely pampered by the staff. Our table gave us a view of the entire stunning room and also overlooked a balcony with a view into the lobby. Connie was our server that evening and she was warm, personable and attentive to every detail through every course, as was the sommelier and every other staff member that attended to us. We enjoyed every bite of our delicious meal and felt that we experienced the perfect balance of privacy and service that allowed us to enjoy each other and forget about the world. Connie delivered our desserts. She invited me to “enjoy my soufflé” as she removed the silver dome with a flourish and walked away. To my total surprise and utter confusion the dome revealed a beautiful, small, brown and gold box that held an engagement ring. After several minutes of me trying to fully comprehend that the box on the tray was indeed not a soufflé, my boyfriend proposed. I will never forget the feeling of amazement that he had been able to surprise me. Unbeknownst to me, my boyfriend had given that little box to the maitre’d earlier in the evening with instructions to deliver it when he and the staff thought it would be most magical. After the ring was delivered, the proposal accepted and many tears, Connie came back to the table to congratulate us and share in our fun. She and the rest of the staff were so sweet and made the celebration even more special than it already was. We went on to hold our wedding and reception at the Adolphus and were able to have photographs taken in the French Room at the very same table where my husband proposed. Connie was on hand to give me a hug before the photograph. Thanks to Loretta, Augustine and all of the other staff involved, our ceremony and reception were perfect and we had no worries or details to fret about at all. The evening was exactly what we had hoped for. Everyone at the Adolphus and the French Room had a hand in making the proposal, the wedding and the reception absolutely magical, breathtaking and perfect. We will always feel that the French Room and the Adolphus are “our place”. There is no more beautiful or friendlier place in Dallas to celebrate a special occasion or to make any ordinary day something special.
Many, many thanks,
Karen and Eli Mercado
